Why Change?

Lately I’ve heard the same phrase in a lot of different places and contexts and it made me think about what we’re really saying. “People change,” “make a change from within,” “if you want to change, only you can make it happen.” Too many times do we convince ourselves that it’s time for a change. We try to lose weight, or find a new job, or cut our hair and for what? Because New Years resolutions or magazine covers tell us it’s a refreshing thing to do?

Sometimes the most eye-opening thing is to fall in love with who you are and what you have. To accept the way you were born, to accept the things you were given and be grateful for who’s in your life. We were all born with things we do great. It doesn’t have to be your conventional talents like singing or dancing or painting. Some people were born great listeners, some were born great cooks; whether you use your gift to listen to your closest friends, or cook for a room full of world renowned chefs – no accomplishment is small when it belongs to you. The world changes. Times change. Things change around you all the time, which in turn, alter the way life goes on. I think the best thing to do is stay true to yourself and those who accept you. It’s great to implement new things into your life and I’m not saying to stop challenging yourself or striving for more. But when you accept that who you are and what you have is enough, you’ll start to see you don’t want it to change – and that’s a great feeling.
