I have become mildly obsessed with Birchbox and it seems like the products they send me get better every time. Out of the boxes I’ve gotten so far, there hasn’t been a single sample that doesn’t apply to me, or I can’t use. To me, that makes the monthly price well worth it. Not to mention the sample sized are fairly substantial and I always feel like I have an ample amount to try the product enough to make an informed decision on whether or not I want to buy the full size.
This month, like always, I will highlight my favorites from this box. But first, I’ll touch on why I thought my not-so-favorites could’ve been better.
Maybe it’s because I have an M.B.A. in business, concentrating in marketing, or maybe it’s because I’m a bit naive and dislike when people take advantage of that, but one of my biggest pet peeves is false advertising. I felt I was tricked by Not Soap, Radio Body Wash. They advertise the product as a calming bath compliment that works not only as a soap, but also a relaxing component. When using this product I could barely smell the scent of mango & coconut milk and it didn’t even lather on my wash rag like most body washes would do. It seemed almost like it had been watered down or diluted. I love the idea of the product and am happy Birchbox taught me about the company, but as you can tell from scrolling over the image above – I didn’t rate it too high.
Color Club’s polish in Not My Jam is my favorite color. A deep red that has more purple tones than anything else. That being said, I’ve still yet to find the perfect red polish without going to a salon and getting it done. I’m not a fan of having to coat my nails so many times they never dry and this polish was just thin enough I felt like I’d have to do that. On the bright side, you can never have too many red nail polishes and the sample size was big enough to be worth the $10/month spent on the entire box. So I was happy.
Whish Revitalizing Cleaning Oil is just plain cool. I have never heard of the concept of drawing oil out of your skin with oil. Seems counter-productive, right? Actually, it works amazingly! After cleaning my face and then using this oil in the shower, my skin felt totally clean. I have combination skin and generally get oily spots in the middle of my forehead of around my nose, especially when I’m stressed, but on my busiest (and most oily day) if I use this at the end of the night, those problem areas are totally matte and feeling fresh.
I am addicted to ARROW BOOST Color Enhancing Lip Balm. This is the best lip balm I have ever used and the color enhancing technology makes my lips the perfect shade of pink to match my skin tone. Not only that, but this “sample” is identical to the actual product and now has a spot as my go-to lip balm in the small pocket of my purse. The only qualm I have about this product is the scent/taste of it. If you accidentally lick your lips you may cough… a lot. The smell is a tad too florally and strong for my tastes but I would buy this product again and again based on it’s other amazing properties.
Obliphica Professional Seaberry Serum – for Medium to Coarse hair is a game changer. My hair is pretty low maintenance to start with, but I always like to use some sort of product that adds softness and shine – I think I found my go-to-forever with this adorable purple bottle. After I shower and towel dry my hair I rub a penny-size of this serum into my ends and then up toward my roots. I blow dry like normal, no styling in the process, and my hair is it’s perfectly tame, wavy self. It looks like I went to a salon and got a blow out the night before. I can honestly say this is my favorite sample from Birchbox thus far and I want a lifetime supply.
If you’re on the fence about trying Birchbox I’d say there’s no better time than now and with my birthday approaching in just 3 days – I am so excited to receive my March box. This really is a subscription that continuously makes you feel special and caters the samples towards your personal likes and needs. My best friend, Emmy has a subscription as well and never gets the same products in her box as I get in mine. That’s because they go by the skin tone/type you have, hair color/texture you have and your personal requests more than any company I’ve heard about before. If all else fails though, get yourself some Seaberry Serum and watch your hair morph into a mystical, magical thing almost instantly. You are welcome.
